‘When you stand naked on a mirror and look down, you will see the perineum’.

‘One cannot study the structure of the eye and deny the existence of God.’

Opening lines used by my Anatomy and Opthalmology professors respectively, and it certainly got me paying attention, processing, and remembering.

I am tweaking my own opening line, and wonder if you have one too? For now, mine reads something like this:

The quickest way to access the brain to reset focus, reduce stress, or even change brain structure, is through the senses.

There is something to be said for powerful opening lines, followed by of course, powerful content.

Attention spans have reduced; short and punchy are often the only way to change behaviour, especially when working with GenZ and GenA.

The other secret for optimal attention and processing, is to always, always engage more sensory systems than just eyes and ears. Touch, smell, taste, and movement are powerful allies in making any message stick. Whether you are teaching a class or fascilitating a workspace workshop.
